Basant Panchami (festival)
* The day of Basant Panchami is also known as "Shri Panchami".
* It is also celebrated as the beginning of spring
* According to the Hindu calendar, this festival is celebrated every year on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Magh month.
* This festival has great importance for the farmers.
* The word 'Basant' means spring and the fifth day of 'Panchami', therefore, when the spring season arrives in the month of Magha, the fifth day of this month i.e. Panchami is celebrated as Basant Panchami.
On this day Goddess Saraswati is worshiped in schools and colleges and all the students worship Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of learning.
* There are 6 seasons in our country India, whose names are respectively Basant Ritu, Summer Season, Rainy Season, Sharad Ritu, Hemant Ritu and Shishir Ritu i.e. Autumn, out of which the season of Spring is the most pleasant and that is why Basant Ritu is known as the king of Rituraj

“In Indian tradition, wisdom and speech are interrelated and who better can symbolise this than the Vagdevi (goddess of speech)
who is also the Vidyadatri (the goddess who provides knowledge).”
“In her white attire, a contemplative Saraswati lost in the music of her veena is a counternarrative to other fiery, strong and powerful goddesses. However, she never ceases to lose her unparalleled charm.”
“Contemporary India; when referred to as a knowledge economy, indicates Saraswati helping India to generate Lakshmi.
In an era where education has become a tool to create jobs- not wisdom; and the mass aspiration is to be wealthy-not wise; how would Saraswati help India generate Laxmi remains a million-dollar question.”
Vasant Panchami, also spelled as Basant Panchami or known commonly as Saraswati Puja, marks the onset of the spring season and is a day dedicated to Goddess Saraswati - the Goddess of knowledge, music, art, speech, wisdom, and learning.
With the onset of the spring season, it’s time to celebrate the festival of Basant Panchami. It is celebrated in eastern parts of India as Saraswati Puja, particularly in West Bengal and Bihar.
In North India, especially in Punjab, Basant Panchami is celebrated as a festival of kites whereas in Rajasthan wearing jasmine garland to celebrate this festival is a part of the rituals.
As per a popular belief, goddess Saraswati, who is said to be the deity of learning, music and art was born on this day and people worship her to achieve wisdom.
According to the Hindu Mythology, it is believed that Lord Brahma created the universe on this day. It is also believed that on this day Goddess Saraswati was born to Goddess Durga.
The colour yellow has a great significance in the celebration of Basant Panchami as it marks the harvest time of mustard crop that has yellow blooms, which is Goddess Saraswati’s favourite colour. Yellow attire is therefore worn by the followers of Saraswati.
