Antivenom was first manufactured in 1904.

 Antivenom

We may have heard at times that poisoning with a snake bite means that if we are bitten by a snake, we will not be poisoned enough to bite it back.  It's the same thing with snakebite.

Let's see what is this antidote is.

The medicine or antidote for snakebite was first discovered by the French scientist LΓ©on Charles Albert Calmette in the late nineteenth century.  After a flood, a monocled cobra landed in a village near the Vietnamese city of Saigon and bit more than forty people.  The news upset Albert, a scientist and medical officer in the Navy.  He decided to find medicine against snake venom anyway.  In 1890 he visited his professors Louis Pasteur and Emily Roux and joined the Pasteur Institute for research.  Albert began his experiments in toxicology, a field that had not been explored by many until then.  To this end, the venom of many snakes, bees and plants was collected and studied.  Thus, in 1894, he discovered a serum that was resistant to snake venom.  It is also known as Calmette's serum.

Later many scientists researched in this area and found a lot of antivenin and used it effectively.

Today, many species of toxins are grown in institutions that produce toxins.  Much attention is paid to their health and care.  Experts take mature snakes by the hand and press them on the venom glands on the back of their heads to poison them.  As soon as the toxins are collected, they are stored in separate bottles.  The top of the bottle records the species of the snake and where it was found.  It then lowers its temperature to about 20 C.  Widely we use the horse to produce antibodies.  This is because horses survive most of the world's climate, are of good weight and are more human-friendly.  Goats, donkeys, rabbits, monkeys and camels are also used.

Prior to injecting the toxin into the animal, a chemist checks the level of the toxin and dilutes it with purified water.  It is then added to the adjuvant (a substance used in vaccines used to enhance immunity).  Thus the horse's body reacts and antibodies are formed to neutralize the toxin.  This time everything is checked and made sure that the horse is in good health.  At 8 to 10 weeks, the horse will have strong antibodies.  At that time 3-6 liters of blood is collected from the vein in the horse's neck.  The next step is to purify the collected blood and make plasma and antivenin.

Antivirals are classified into two types: monovalent (used only against toxins in one species) and polyvalent (used against toxins in many species).

We have developed antidotes against the toxins of many toxins found in our country.

The most deadly snakes in India are the cobra, the silver lizard, the lizard and the cigar.  The most potent of these is silver.  Our country has an antivenin that works against the venom of these four snakes.  After these four snakes, the most common cause of death on land is the muzzle pit.  But compared to the major four species, the death toll from knee bites is very low.  Antivenom does not exist against the knee-jerk pit.  Sea snakes are all venomous.  They have rarely been reported to have been bitten and no antivenin is available.

Happy day dears!   Thank you!
