 "Maharashtra is known for its Victorian architecture, Bollywood magic, historical architecture, tongue-in-cheek taste, and snow-capped hill stations in the valleys of the Western Ghats.  There are so many beautiful places here.  Let’s get acquainted with some of those different places.```


 * Aurangabad *


 Aurangabad is famous for being the site of the Ajanta and Ellora Caves, a popular tourist destination and one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.  The hill station of the Deccan Traps is also a major producer of cotton and silk fabrics.


 Other tourist attractions include the Aurangabad Caves and the Daulatabad Fort.  The Jama Masjid, the tomb of Bibi Ka Maqbara, Himayat Bagh, Panchki and Salim Ali Lake, the tombs of Dilras Banu Begum, the wife of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, are also worth a visit.


 Paithan, the imperial capital of the Satavahana dynasty, and Daulatabad or Devagiri, the capital of the Yadava dynasty, are located within the boundaries of modern Aurangabad.  In addition, the 250-year-old Parshvanath Temple, the Kachner Jain Temple, the 52 gates built during the Mughal period, the Siddharth Garden and the Zoo attract many tourists.


 * Mahabaleshwar *


 Mahabaleshwar, a popular pilgrimage center and a popular hill station for tourists, can be reached in an average of 5 hours from Mumbai.  Adjacent to the Western Ghats, this place was a summer capital during the British rule.  Old Mahabaleshwar is located at a distance of 7 km from Mahabaleshwar.


 Arthur Point, the highest Wilson Point in Mahabaleshwar, Butter Lake, 3 Monkey Point, Kates Point, famous for its view of two reservoirs, Balakwadi and Dhom, Needle Hole Point / Elephant Point  The waterfalls, Dhobi Falls and Chinaman Falls are some of the other attractions of the place.


 * Lavasa *


 Lavasa is considered to be the first hill station in India after independence.  The planned city is located near Pune in the Mulshi Valley of the Western Ghats.  Built on the model of the Italian city of Portofino, it takes an average of 4 hours to reach Mumbai.  Spread over seven hills, this place is a beautiful place.  The city is built around a man-made lake.  The place is famous for many fun water sports like kayaking, jet skiing and water volleyball.


 * Matheran *


 Matheran, located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, is a tourist destination located in just 3 hours from Mumbai and Pune.  Snow, rain and mountains play a harp on each other.  The climate here is pleasant throughout the year, but it is best to visit this place during the months of October to May..


 Matheran is an ideal destination for wildlife lovers as there are several trekking routes for the adventurous.  Matheran is the only hill station in Asia where traffic is banned.  Horse-drawn carriages and man-drawn rickshaws are the main means of transportation here.  The train journey across the 20 km long railway line through the mountainous region from Neral to Matheran is also an unforgettable experience.


 * Alibag *


 Alibag is a beautiful beach town located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra.  Alibag and its surrounding villages have been the site of Ben-Israeli Jewish history for more than 250 years.  Another highlight of the place is the black sandy beaches.  Colaba Fort, Akshi Beach, Mandwa Beach and Khanderi Fort are some of the popular tourist attractions.


 * Kamshet *


 Kamshet, also known as the Paragliding Capital of India, is located 110 km from Mumbai.  Surrounded by the Western Ghats, this place has many waterfalls and beautiful monasteries.  The Shinde Wadi Hills here are the most famous paragliding take off point..


 Another major attraction is the Pavna Lake, an artificial lake formed by a dam built across the Pavna River.  Situated at an elevation of 2200 ft above sea level, Lake Vadiwale, the 3rd century Carla Caves, the first century Cretaceous Buddhist cave Bedusa Caves, the Bhaja Caves built around 200 BC, the Vadeshwara Temple, the Sri Kondeshwara Temple and the Sangameshwar Temple are some of the places to visit.


 * Collad *


 Kolad is a village in Maharashtra, 117 km from Mumbai.  This village is very popular among adventure seekers.  It is located on the banks of the river Kundalika.  The 14 km white water river rafting through Kundalini Lake is a popular adventure water sport here.  The Bhira Dam, the main source of water on the Kundalika River, is also famous for water rafting.  It is also famous for boating and photography
