Snake bites: Emergency caring

Snakes are reptiles that have no limbs.  The venom that terrifies snakes is mainly for them to catch prey.  Snakes do not use venom on their enemies, including humans, unless they are moving.

 Snake venom

Toxins are a complex mixture of various chemicals.  The main types of toxins are Haemotoxin, which affects the blood, and Neurotoxin, which affects the nervous system.  There are also toxins such as myotoxin, which affects the muscles, and cardiotoxin, which affects the heart.  Most snakes have more than one type of venom in common.  Once the toxin enters the body, there is no doubt that it can cause minor health problems.

But the fact is that only a handful of the hundreds of snakes found in India are venomous.  The four most deadly venomous snakes in India are the Spectacled Cobra, the Common Indian Krait, the Russell’s Viper and the Saw-scaled Viper.  But there are some snakes that look and feel like these.  The fact is that they can not be identified without at least a little study.  Therefore, not all snake bites should be read in conjunction with poisoned death.  Or even if it is a venomous snake, if the snake bites someone immediately after its prey, the venom in the snake's venom does not necessarily mean that it is poisonous.  Known as the ‘dry bite’, these snake bites are harmless.

The salivary gland is located behind the venomous snake's eye.  Common therapies for snake venom include the bite of a non-venomous snake, the bite of a venomous venomous snake, and the misdiagnosis of a snake bite.  The hours spent going to them can often even lead to the loss of the patient’s life

 What is Aunty Venom

ASV (Anti Snake Venom) is made by injecting the venom of these snakes into the horse's body and removing the antibodies against the venom from the blood.  This drug is called Polyvalent Anti Snake Venom because it works against the venom of four snakes.

The main drawback of this drug is that it can cause allergies.  Therefore, hospitals should have facilities to treat allergies.  Medication should be given to patients who may have allergies but need to.  Only that the medical facilities to be received.  The drug is available in all government medical colleges and major government and private hospitals in Kerala.

If you are bitten by a snake, you do not have to rush to identify the snake.  There are various reasons for this.

The snake venom treatment (ASV) available in India is Polyvalent, which works against four major snake venoms.  Therefore, if the venom is confirmed, the treatment will be accurate whether the snake is identified or not.

In addition to identifying the snake, the doctor will determine the treatment based on the physical symptoms of the person being bitten.  This is how the ASV dose is determined.  This dose does not vary depending on the age of the person, the size of the snakebite wound, or any other general cause.  Instead, the dosage of the antidote is determined by the patient's physical symptoms and other physical ailments.

Spending time looking for snakes can make the patient worse.

It does not have to be a snake bite.  Most snakes have common habitats.  There can be more than one snake in an area.  Sometimes the patient is bitten by a non-venomous pump and the person looking for the snake is bitten by a venomous snake.  It takes skill, not courage, to deal with a poisonous creature.  Act wisely

What to do immediately after a snake bite.

I have heard that if a snake bites, it bites back and it becomes poisonous.  This can only be considered a joke.  If you go looking for a snake to bite back, there is no point in buying a second bite. Do not resort to such adventures.

Fear is only natural.  But panic and trying to escape can speed up the blood circulation in the body and quickly deliver toxins to the heart, kidneys and brain.  If alone, make sure the bite is below the heart.  This way the toxin can be delayed from reaching the vital organs.  Request help over the phone or otherwise as soon as possible.  Understand that it is a precious time in life to not move the bitten part

Tightening with cloth is a common practice but is not particularly beneficial.  In addition, excessive tightening of the ligament can block blood flow to the affected area and make the area unusable.  If longer or tied, one finger should have the flexibility to climb.  If the bite is on the limbs, remove the worn watch or jewelry.  Later, when the swelling subsides, they may become tight and difficult.

If there is bleeding from the wound, the wound can be bandaged with a clean cloth.

No need to waste time trying to catch a snake or take a photo of a snake.  As mentioned earlier, there is little connection between snake identification and treatment.  The most important thing is to give the patient the treatment he needs as soon as possible.  If it is possible to take pictures on a mobile phone from a safe distance, it may help the treating doctor to determine if the snake is venomous.  It's not.

"Do it RIGHT"

There are some things to keep in mind when transporting a snakebite victim to the hospital.  It can be summarized in the English sentence below.

  DO IT RIGHT

R - Reassure the Victim / Reassure the snake bite victim

I - Immobilize the bitten part without tight bandages / കടിയേറ്റ ഭാഗം അനക്കാതിരിക്കുക.  Under no circumstances should a tight bandage obstruct blood flow to that area.

G H - Get the patient to Hospital as soon as possible.  Anti-venom is the only cure for a venomous snakebite / Get to the hospital as soon as possible.  ASV is the only treatment for venomous snake bites.

T - Tell the doctor any signs or symptoms that happen on the way to the hospital.

 Things not to do.

The precious hours lost for unscientific treatments may push the patient from misery to tragedy.  Putting poisonous stones and wasting time on herbs will not help if the poison is mixed in the blood.  Valuable time to save the patient will be lost this way.

Do not drink alcohol, smoke or eat.  Alcohol and the nicotine in tobacco can cause the blood vessels to expand and the toxins to enter the bloodstream very quickly.  Ingredients in some foods (for example caffeine in tea and coffee) work similarly.  Remember, these are not substances that should be used to reduce snakebite stress.  It is important to seek treatment without wasting time.

Do not ingest or consume any kind of medicine or leaves.  The wound should be treated as soon as possible.  A poisoned wound should not be in a position to increase the risk of infection.  Also, do not try to drain the blood by making an incision in the bite area.  A venomous snake bite that affects the blood can cause the blood to lose its ability to clot.  The result will be massive blood loss.

Do not try to spit blood out of the wound by mouth.  A person who inhales toxins can become poisoned.

Do not use ice on the wound / Do not burn with fire.  None of these can prevent poisoning.  It will only cause harm.

 Treatment.

The treatment for snakebite is mainly ASV.  Prior to treatment, some tests are performed to confirm the presence of toxins in the body and to determine if ASV should be used.  Putting 10 milliliters of blood out of the body in a glass test tube and monitoring its clotting is a very important test.  Loss of blood clotting capacity is dangerous.  In addition, different tests will be done depending on the patient's symptoms, such as blood count in the urine and RFT, which monitors kidney function.  Ptosis is a symptom that can even identify a bitten snake.  Snake venom may sometimes require dialysis.  The most important thing is to get treatment on time.

 Snake Bite - Superstitions.

Snake bites do not make you sleep - there is no scientific basis for this.  Bringing up a snake-bitten baby without letting him sleep, arguing, scaring and crying can be counterproductive.

If it is tied tightly over the wound, the blood will not mix with the body - if the bite is on the arm or leg, the blood flow to that area may stop and the area may become useless.

A second bite with a bitten snake can cause poisoning - some more venom may enter the body and delay treatment.  Dangerous act.

If the snake is hurt, the snake will bite back - the snake has no such feature.  There is no memory or divine power.  Snakes do not even bite, except in cases where their life is endangered / mistaken for prey.

If you are bitten by a water stick, you should skip dinner - The water stick is a non-venomous snake.  There is no basis for avoiding food for water bite.

Happy day dears!   Thank you!
