Australian researchers have discovered a strange rotating object in the Milky Way.
This is different from what scientists have never seen before. It was first discovered by a university student working on a pre-degree thesis, three times every hour a large explosion of radio energy and subsequent signals are emitted from here.
The pulse comes every 18.18 minutes like clockwork, said astronomer Natasha Hurley-Walker, who led the investigation after the student's discovery using a telescope in a Western Australian outback known as the Murchison Widefield Array.
There are other objects in the universe that switch on and off, like pulsars, but 18.18 minutes is a frequency never seen before, said Hurley-Walker.
The discovery of this object was' kind of terrifying for an astronomer, 'they said,' because no such thing has ever been found to occur in the universe. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. The research team is trying to figure out what was found.
Going back through years of data, they discovered a few facts: This object is about 4,000 light-years from Earth, and has an incredibly bright and very strong magnetic field.
But there are still many mysteries to be solved. This material may have been theorized by researchers, but it has never been called the 'ultra long period magnet'.
It could be a white dwarf, a remnant of a broken star. But that, too, is quite unusual. We only know a white dwarf pulsar, there is no other great thing like this, 'said Harley-Walker.
To the question of whether a strong, stable radio signal from space could be sent to any other living thing, Harley-Walker agreed: 'I was worried it was an alien.' Similarly, the research team was able to monitor the signal at different frequencies.
'That means it has to be a natural process, not an artificial signal,' said Harley-Walker. The next step for researchers is to explore more of these strange objects around the universe.
'Further discoveries can tell astronomers whether this is a rare event or something we have never noticed before,' said Harley-Walker.
Happy day dears! Thank you!
