Winners of the Padma Awards in the fields of Literature, Education and Science - 2022
The President, Shri Ramnath Kovind has approved the awarding of 128 Padma Awards this year. Introduce the 2022 Padma Award winners and the nominees for the Padma Awards in the fields of Literature, Education and Science.
The Padma Awards are one of the highest civilian awards in India in the fields of literature, education, arts, science, engineering, trade, industry, civil service, public affairs, sports and medicine.
The awards are announced every year on Republic Day and presented by the President of India at an official ceremony in March or April. This year, the President has approved 128 Padma Awards - 4 Padma Vibhushans, 17 Padma Bhushans and 107 Padma Shri Awards.

Among this 128 distinguished personalities 34 are women, 13 are posthumous and 10 are foreign / NRI / PIO / OCI.
The list of Padma Award winners for 2022 can be summarized
Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat was awarded the Padma Vibhushan posthumously this year, for his contribution to the country in civil services. Kalyan Singh, former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, was also honored with the Padma Vibhushan posthumously.
Cyrus Poonawalla of the Serum Institute of India, which manufactured COVID-19 vaccine Covishield, and Krishna Ella and Suchitra Ella of Bharat Biotech, which produced India's indigenous coronavirus vaccine Covaxin, were also given by Padma Bhushan.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Google CEO Sundar Pichai conferred the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award.
Late Punjabi folk singer Gurmeet Bawa, actor Victor Banerjee and former Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi have been awarded Padma Bhushan.
Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra and singer Sonu Nigam were awarded Padma Shri.
How are the three Padma Awards different from each other?
The Padma Vibhushan, the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Shri are three separate awards given by the Government of India which seek to recognize achievements in all fields of activities or disciplines where an element of public service is involved. The Padma Awards were instituted in the year 1954, and is announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day except for brief interruption (s) during the years 1978 and 1979 and 1993 to 1997.
How are people nominated for the Padma Awards?
The state governments, union territory administrations, central ministries and departments, the institutions of Excellence etc submit the recommendations for the Padma awards.
These nominations are then considered by an Awards Committee who give their recommendations.
The Padma Awards are announced on the eve of the Republic Day on the basis of the information secured from the awards committee, and after the approval of the Home Minister, Prime Minister and President.
The Awards are given in three categories: Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (distinguished service of higher order) and Padma Shri (distinguished service).
It is the second highest civilian honor of India is given for exceptional and distinguished service in any field including service rendered by the government servants.T
he highest award in India is the Bharat Ratna.

Who are eligible or not eligible for the Padma Awards?
All persons without distinction of race, occupation, position or sex are eligible for these awards. However, except doctors and scientists, government servants including those working with PSUs, are not eligible for the Padma Awards.
